In Close Proximity (Alarms don’t bother me)
The practice of Monika Balu is drawn to searching for ways to convey auditory perception juxtaposed with personal and collective thoughts on sound. Inspired by audiology and eyesight, the dilemma of how to make sound visible is harnessed by the employment of elements that have symbolic value. In parallel between listening and seeing, the struggle of improvement is portrayed by mechanical moves and timeless repetition.
