In reverse remembrance
My artistic practice is shifting between the concepts of repetition and disintegration. I am interested in how images visually can be dissolved in textile materials and in the sense of continuity that patterns can create.
In this project, I have printed different patterns on both sides of a fabric. That is a fabric which I have been cutting to bits and pieces and then reconstructed by sewing. I have documented the steps in the process by photographing the two sides of the fabric, by placing the fabric and the camera in various angles and positions.
After that, I’ve been weaving those photographs, double-sided, so each side of the weave shows the respective side of the cloth.
I hand weave in a digital jacquard loom in a technology that makes it possible to weave different motives on both sides of the weave.
