Mimicking the ordinary
With my exam work, Mimicking the ordinary, Iwonder how we can engage with objects and space through materiality in order to re-discover what they can mean for us. I looked for possibilities to this question through phenomenology and my process.
I aimed to challenge an ordinary act of design, mimicking an archetype, to examine what else can be found than the expected. I chose an archetype –column –for a specific technique and material, which creates the appropriate imitating unreachable. I became interested in how I can collaborate and compromise with the properties of veneer, to approximate the unreachable, and “try to become”, instead of “being alike”. Through this explorative process, I wanted to highlight the role of materiality in experiencing objects.
