Curing Chronic Loneliness
Series of six handmade photo books, 14×20 cm
By photographing her body, its surroundings and encounters, Petronella Åslund discusses societal norms, beauty ideals, patriarchal structures and how intimacy can become an act of activism. Grounded in the feeling of being undesirable and unworthy of romantic love, the camera became a tool with which she dared to approach others in search of intimacy.
While critically reflecting upon what expectations are forced onto women and their bodies she guides her viewer through deeply personal stories of dating, loneliness, heartbreak, self realization and the rush of falling in love. In Curing Chronic Loneliness Åslund makes the private political.
