Being a Man 2020
My dissertation centers on masculinity and the ambiguity contained within it. I want to discuss how the idea of how men should think and act affects not only society at large, but also themselves as individuals. I have interviewed and talked to four different men about their experience of living as a man today and I have also spent a lot of time with statistics and academic studies discussing men at a social level. Comparing individual and group has been essential to describe what life looks like today for men, women and everyone in between.
Much has already been written on this subject, but it is usually written in a language that for many is difficult to understand and is hidden in databases of academic texts. In this project I wanted to create a book that made you, as a reader, want to read it, that it would be an enjoyable and educational experience, and also a little fun.
I want my work to provoke and spark discussion and reflection so that you, as a reader, can formulate your own thoughts on the topic. It is a multifaceted subject that, I believe, cannot be seen in black and white. I hope that this work helps to nuance the debate and encourages you to continue reading.
