BFA<\/h3>\n

So it is <\/span>time<\/span> for <\/span>yet<\/span> another<\/span> group<\/span> of<\/span> design students<\/span> to finish <\/span>their<\/span> three<\/span> years<\/span> of<\/span> BA studies <\/span>with<\/span> interesting<\/span>, <\/span>important<\/span> and <\/span>beautiful<\/span> degree<\/span> projects<\/span>. <\/span>However<\/span>, the students’ <\/span>last semester<\/span> did<\/span> not look like the <\/span>usual<\/span> semester. <\/span>They<\/span> had<\/span> barely<\/span> begun<\/span> their<\/span> work<\/span> until<\/span> life<\/span> and <\/span>their<\/span> studies <\/span>changed<\/span> drastically<\/span>. Covid19 <\/span>caused<\/span> parts <\/span>of<\/span> society<\/span> and the <\/span>entire<\/span> HDK-Valand <\/span>buildings<\/span> to <\/span>close<\/span> down. Students <\/span>who<\/span> planned<\/span> to <\/span>carry<\/span> out<\/span> their<\/span> projects<\/span> on site in the <\/span>school<\/span> premises<\/span> and workshops<\/span> now<\/span> had<\/span> to re-plan. <\/span>Dialogues<\/span> with<\/span> users<\/span> and <\/span>external<\/span> partners <\/span>became<\/span> complicated<\/span>. In <\/span>many<\/span> cases<\/span>, <\/span>mapping<\/span> of<\/span> environments<\/span> and full <\/span>scale<\/span> work<\/span> became<\/span> impossible<\/span>. <\/span>Production<\/span> of<\/span> prototypes<\/span> in <\/span>wood<\/span>, <\/span>textiles<\/span> and <\/span>metal<\/span> was<\/span> severely<\/span> limited<\/span>. <\/span>Easy<\/span> to <\/span>lose<\/span> motivation? Not <\/span>these<\/span> students. It <\/span>became<\/span> a <\/span>feverish<\/span> activity<\/span> as <\/span>many<\/span> had<\/span> to <\/span>adjust<\/span> methods<\/span> and <\/span>tools<\/span>. <\/span>Kitchens<\/span> were<\/span> transformed<\/span> into<\/span> workshops, <\/span>new software<\/span> had<\/span> to be <\/span>learned<\/span> and the <\/span>ingenuity<\/span> saw<\/span> no <\/span>boundaries<\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This<\/span> extra <\/span>layer<\/span> of<\/span> problem <\/span>solving<\/span> has <\/span>been<\/span> handled by the students <\/span>with<\/span> good<\/span> courage<\/span>, and it has <\/span>resulted<\/span> in a <\/span>broadening<\/span> of<\/span> their<\/span> knowledge<\/span>. Designers from the Corona generation <\/span>are<\/span> clearly<\/span> survivors<\/span> who<\/span> know<\/span> how<\/span> high<\/span> goals<\/span> can<\/span> be <\/span>achieved<\/span> with<\/span> alternative <\/span>methods<\/span> and new <\/span>ways<\/span> of<\/span> thinking<\/span>. And <\/span>they<\/span> seem<\/span> to be <\/span>able<\/span> to <\/span>handle<\/span> stress and<\/span> uncertainty<\/span> brilliantly<\/span>. The students’ <\/span>work<\/span> has a <\/span>consistently<\/span> high<\/span> international <\/span>class<\/span>. <\/span>Sustainability<\/span> issues<\/span> and the <\/span>creation<\/span> of<\/span> useful<\/span>, <\/span>thought-provoking<\/span> and smart solutions <\/span>permeate<\/span> the <\/span>work<\/span>. <\/span>Each<\/span> project<\/span> is a <\/span>product<\/span> of<\/span> lots <\/span>of<\/span> decisions<\/span> involving<\/span> content<\/span>, <\/span>meaning<\/span> and, <\/span>of<\/span> course<\/span>, <\/span>colours<\/span>, <\/span>shapes<\/span>, <\/span>surfaces<\/span>, materials <\/span>and expressions<\/span>. <\/span>They<\/span> have<\/span> all <\/span>landed<\/span> in the <\/span>creation<\/span> of<\/span> a <\/span>defined<\/span> experience<\/span> for a real <\/span>target<\/span> group<\/span>. The <\/span>projects<\/span> solve<\/span> problems, make <\/span>you<\/span> feel<\/span> better<\/span> and <\/span>provoke<\/span> thoughts<\/span> . <\/span>Welcome<\/span> to <\/span>this<\/span> year’s<\/span> degree<\/span> projects<\/span> at Design BA!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
