BFA<\/h3>\n

The textile field is a rich source to relate \u202f<\/span>to artistically,<\/span>\u202f\u00a0<\/span>since\u00a0<\/span>\u202ftextiles as material and method are found all around us<\/span>, \u202f<\/span>in\u202f\u00a0<\/span>the \u202f<\/span>everyday, in tradition, in politics, in technology and in science. At HDK<\/span>–<\/span>Valand<\/span>\u202f Textile Ar,t students are given the artistic tools needed to work\u202f\u00a0<\/span>at\u00a0<\/span>\u202fa professional level using the medium \u202f<\/span>of textile\u202f\u00a0<\/span>as language and expression.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>In spring 2020 s<\/span>even students graduated from the\u202f\u00a0<\/span>BFA\u00a0<\/span>\u202fTextile <\/span>programm<\/span>e<\/span>. The last months of\u202f\u00a0<\/span>the \u202f<\/span>students’ education\u00a0<\/span>\u202fwere disrupted by the global pandemic.\u202f\u00a0<\/span>Without access to the school’s premises and equipment the students were forced to rethink how they could complete their projects.\u202f\u00a0<\/span>But, as the students\u2019 work demonstrates,\u202f\u00a0<\/span>textile art is a<\/span>\u202f resilient<\/span>\u202f practice that cannot be stopped\u202f\u00a0<\/span>by either\u202f\u00a0<\/span>material or spatial\u202f\u00a0<\/span>restraints.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u202f<\/span>T<\/span>he work of the seven student textile artists\u202f\u00a0<\/span>show intelligence, humor and\u202f\u00a0<\/span>skill<\/span>.\u202f\u00a0<\/span>The significance of Craft practice lies in its ability to\u202f\u00a0<\/span>harbor and convey complex movements and moods, which not only speaks to these \u202f<\/span>turbulent and uncertain times but also to the possibilities of change<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

MFA<\/h3>\n

It is with a great p<\/span>leasure <\/span>HDK-Valand<\/span>, <\/span>the master<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s <\/span>programme<\/span> in Craft<\/span>,<\/span> present the final MFA Degree projects for <\/span>Jewel<\/span>le<\/span>ry<\/span>–<\/span>, Textile<\/span>–<\/span> and Ceramic <\/span>A<\/span>rt<\/span> – 2020<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>M<\/span>aster<\/span>s<\/span> education at <\/span>HDK-V<\/span>a<\/span>land<\/span>, Department of Craft, <\/span>is<\/span> international and multidisciplin<\/span>ary<\/span> welcoming <\/span>students from all over the world with BA backgrounds in craft, fine art, <\/span>design,<\/span> and <\/span>other <\/span>related art educations. <\/span>T<\/span>hereby craft is questioned<\/span>, challenged, and <\/span>critically contextualized <\/span>from many different perspectives giving it a voice and impact on <\/span>our everyday present and future lives.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Craft is an artform close<\/span>ly<\/span> related to <\/span>the <\/span>materials <\/span>and the processes of <\/span>making<\/span>. The students at <\/span>HDK-V<\/span>al<\/span>and<\/span>, Department of <\/span>C<\/span>raft, <\/span>intimately and iteratively synthesize ideas and theories with the physical shaping and forming <\/span>of <\/span>materials in their studios and <\/span>specialized workshops.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year with a worldwide pandemic, this has not been possible. With a lockdown of the university the students were interrupted in the middle of their project<\/span>s<\/span>. The <\/span>teaching and planning changed drastically, as well <\/span>as <\/span>the form and content of the<\/span>ir<\/span> final degree project<\/span>s<\/span>. Despite<\/span> being<\/span> distanced from the studios and workshops, <\/span>the MFA students at <\/span>HDK<\/span>– <\/span>Valand<\/span>, Department of <\/span>C<\/span>raft <\/span>manage<\/span>d<\/span> to <\/span>adapt and complete their projects, including the <\/span>present<\/span>at<\/span>i<\/span>on of their work<\/span> for examination within a<\/span> new digital <\/span>framework.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>students <\/span>achieved<\/span> the <\/span>education<\/span>al requirements of the Masters <\/span>programme<\/span> in Craft, <\/span>Jewel<\/span>le<\/span>ry<\/span>-, Textile- and Ceramic art, producing <\/span>high quality artwork<\/span>s and demonstrating that they<\/span> are ready to <\/span>cope with <\/span>the <\/span>many<\/span> challenges they will meet a<\/span>s Craft practitioners <\/span>outside the art<\/span> school<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
