Glimmer<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Alexander Gustaf-Thompson is <\/span>interested <\/span>in new <\/span>ways <\/span>of <\/span>visualising <\/span>and <\/span>interacting <\/span>with <\/span>the landscape. In an age <\/span>marked <\/span>by human over-<\/span>exploitation <\/span>of <\/span>the <\/span>environment <\/span>he <\/span>wants <\/span>to <\/span>question <\/span>and redefine <\/span>our <\/span>relationship <\/span>with <\/span>landscape, <\/span>especially <\/span>how <\/span>we <\/span>define <\/span>and <\/span>perceive <\/span>it <\/span>through <\/span>photography<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Glimmer the artist has <\/span>made <\/span>photographs <\/span>by <\/span>shining <\/span>light <\/span>through <\/span>semi-transparent wafers <\/span>of <\/span>the mineral <\/span>muscovite <\/span>onto <\/span>light<\/span>-sensitive paper. The billion-<\/span>year<\/span>-old\u00a0<\/span>muscovite<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>found<\/span> in the rocks <\/span>of <\/span>southern <\/span>Gothenburg, is <\/span>reminiscent <\/span>of <\/span>photographic <\/span>negatives \u2013\u00a0<\/span>thin<\/span>, <\/span>silvery<\/span>, and <\/span>of <\/span>varying <\/span>transparency<\/span>. The <\/span>resulting <\/span>cameraless <\/span>photographs <\/span>reveal <\/span>the <\/span>ancient <\/span>and <\/span>intricate <\/span>patterns <\/span>of <\/span>the landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n
